Summer is in full stride now and training seems to be as normal as ever (which for me, is a good thing). The end of June brought with it the typical testing regime that I experience every summer to gage my fitness. Spread out over the week was a V02 max at the TCR Sport Lab in Calgary, uphill skate time trial, and double pole test.

Breathing through a tube while already oxygen deprived is a lot of fun...
With testing finished, the Alberta World Cup Academy packed up the team vans and travelled to New Denver, B.C. for our second camp. New Denver is this small town of 600 situated in the West Kootenay region with a slight hippy vibe. Word is they apparently banned a cell tower from being built because they didn't want the government to read their minds of radiation.
To get to New Denver, we had to take a half-hour ferry ride across a lake. Everyone on the team was quite intrigued by this boat that carries cars.
Hippy Town? How could you tell? These domes were our living quarters for the three nights. After staying a few nights in them, I was sold on the design. "There's no place like dome".
The first workout of the camp was a 220km bike ride, which was dubbed, "The Silver Triangle". A few attacks by some people and constant feed intake made for a fun seven hours.
The ride claimed many bikers. Only Graham Nishikawa and I managed to complete the full loop. After a couple attacks from Coach Mike and I, he conceded to me, "OK, I'll admit your fitter than I am". I still don't know if that is was a complement or not.
This was one of the obstacles encountered on our run the next day. Thankfully everyone made it across the river, which probably would have sucked otherwise.
I didn't do it. An old mine in ruins, after... something big... happened....
Night time fun by the domes. This game of Croquet got a bit competitive by the end, with a few of the players balls being hit across the road.
Skate workout from New Denver on the way to Kaslo. Very quiet road and some nice climbs.
With our return to Canmore came Canada Day, and with that, was the Canmore Parade. This was the second year AWCA participated in the parade, donning spandex and roller skis. One of the best floats for sure (although my opinion is very biased).

Things got pretty heated in the parade. Facial expressions say it all (credit: Craig Douce).
Next thing on the docket is our Haig Glacier camp in 8 days. This year will also mark the 3rd Annual Las Haigas Glacier Resort Disc Golf Championship up there, where Chris Butler has been the undefeated champion. That could change this year, as I try not to come in last (mainly by someone else messing up). I'm sure there will be some worthy photos and words from July 19 - 26, so update to follow then.
Kevin.
