Saturdays classic sprint went quite well for me. An upgraded sprint course said goodbye to the easily double poleable one, and welcomed the longer 1.4km sprint loop, which needless to say ,skis much better for me. I qualified 20th and ended up in the quarter final with Drew Goldsack and Jess Cockney. I don’t think the heat could have gone any better, and with a quick start and strong finish, I ended up 3rd by a toe. Even though I was able to hang around the finish line to see if I would be crowned lucky loser and move onto the semi's, it was inevitable that bib 20 wouldn't be able to pull it off, and I ended the day in 14th.
Sunday’s 15km skate race was something I was looking forward to, as last year I placed 8th and only 20 some seconds behind being the top Canadian. With a bunch of fresh snow overnight and more to come before noon, the skate race was going to be a very soft, slow race. I was looking forward to skiing in some softer conditions, but as I quickly found out, it was a lot harder to find my groove in this stuff than I thought. I finished the day 12th.

I am always willing to pose for the camera, let alone when Roycroft is taking the photo.

The day following the skate race, the team was treated with a long ski around Silver Star. I haven't skied these trails for a while, so it was nice to re-explore the trails. As someone that day dubbed it "everything looks HD".

On Tuesday we drove to Rossland for the last set of races before the Christmas break. Rossland has some of the best skiing in Canada, so it's always a treat to ski and race here. Tomorrow is the beginning of the 3-day mini tour, starting off with a skate sprint, then a 10km skate and 15km classic. Exciting stuff.

And you know what else is exciting? The Academy finally received their new 2010-2011 racing suits and will be showing them off in tomorrow's sprint. A special thanks to Jess Cockney for the awesome and partially subjective photo.
To the races!
Kevin
