We had just two days to familiarize ourselves with the world cup trails prior to Saturday's 15km individual classic race. I would be starting as bib #40 out of a field of 77, a much better starting position than my first world cup back in 2008 where I was bib #1 (albeit bib #1 gets plenty of camera time). The trails here offered plenty of climbs and terrain variances, with a huge climb that seemed endless.
Killick checking out the ski jump and the start of the climb from the 5km world cup course. The climb was only 500m and had over 70m of climbing. Let's just say there was plenty of haring bone this race
My race went pretty well. I ended the day in 53rd and just 3:15 back from some guy named Eldar Roenning from Norway. My goal was the ski smooth and relaxed, something I learnt the hard way from my first world cup in Canmore where sprinted out of the start (rumor has it I was tied with Kershaw for the lead at the 1km point). This being my second world cup, and first in Europe, it was quite a shock to have hundreds of fans on the climbs and stadium cheering me on, almost cacophonous at times.

Now with my world cup warm up under my belt, I'm in the final days of preparing for my first Under-23 race, the 15km individual skate race on Thursday.
Looking forward to it.
