Canada Winter Games is something I'm sure a lot of athletes look forward to growing up, especially myself. This being my second trip to the games, I was hoping to improve on past performances; a second place finish in the team relay and improving upon my 2007 total pin count. The 10km individual skate race started off the games at the Martock Ski Centre, about an hour long bus ride from Halifax. The trails here are more Rolling Stones that Faith Hill, so finding places to make time were pretty limited. It ended up being a very tight race, with just four seconds separating third to first.

Alberta dominated the 15km classic race, with a tight sprint to the line between the three of us (with me taking the bronze). Alberta sweep. Boom. Credit Mike Norton

Alberta claims the gold! This is the first time Alberta has won the team relay since at least 1991 (I can't find results past Grand Prairie 1995). Photo stolen without permission from Heidi Widmer's blog

After the closing ceremonies, the games area turns into a massive trading zone. I didn't wan't to go home empty handed like I did in 2007, so I traded my blue Alberta jacket for some pins, which at the time seemed like a steel (for the other guy). As Howie Mandel would say, "You made a bad deal." Whatever, pins are forever.

To top off a great week of racing, the team was taken out for some lobster. Here is Gerard Garnier and Killick getting the low down on a clean and safe lobster disembodiment.
Finally! The majority of this seasons travel is all wrapped up and I get to relax at home for the majority of March, with the Canadian Championships starting this Saturday in Canmore. Late this month I will pack up my duffel one last time and head to Sun Valley, Idaho for the US Championships 50km and Super Tour Finals.
Final stretch people!
Kevin
