This year having the races held in Canmore were a big bonus. After the back and forth travelling from Europe, Easterns, and Canada Winter Games, it was nice to stay put. Racing started off with the club team sprint, and this year I was drafted up to the A-Team (sort of by default but o well). Completing the duo and running the anchor leg was hard ass Brent McMurtry, the sort of guy that doesn't tolerate mistakes and runs a tight ship. In both the semi and final I was able to hold my own, letting Brent do all the hard work and in the end, taking the victory for Foothills Nordic.

I'm still a man dreaming of the impossible; Foothills Nordic off to a good start trying to reclaim the club title. Also had a shout-out in the Canmore Leader Credit Martin Jalkotzy
It looked like my nationals were off to a good start, but I was still looking for a medal in one of the individual events. The 10km Skate followed the next day, and after a racing the exact same race the weekend before at the Alberta Cup, I knew it was going to be a hard one. It's felt like skating has been doing me well this year, and after a good start, and fast second lap and ok finishing lap, I finished the day in 3rd. Hallelujah! The drought it [hopefully] over!

A sweet photo by Pam Doyle, Mike and I having a moment - final lap just before the wall.
And then there was the 50km. Well, there was the 15km classic race, but I don't have any photos of that one so we'll skip right to the last race. I finished in 3rd, behind McMurtry and fast dude and winner George Grey.

At 9km into the race, this gap sort of opened up, more by accident. An attack by a feed station momentarily split up the group and I got my 2km of fame. Credit Angus Cockney
